Explore your options for Dental Insurance

Dental insurance is relatively affordable and can save you money on costly procedures like fillings, crowns, or root canals. There is no enrollment period, which means you can sign up for a dental insurance plan at any time. Monthly premiums are all the same for those who have gone longer between visits to a dentist. Dental coverage plans require an annual deductible that starts at $50 but may go up depending on your age, as well as copayments when visiting a dentist for treatment or services.

The best way to protect yourself against unexpected expenses incurred during routine checkups is through regular preventive care appointments combined with accident prevention practices in daily life: brushing twice per day; flossing teeth once per day.

What Is Dental Insurance?

Dental insurance differs from health care coverage in that you usually have an annual maximum benefit limit. Once your yearly allotment is used up, it’s time to foot the bill! The waiting periods are also different depending on what type of dental treatment you need as well – keep reading for more information.

Make sure you don’t confuse dental insurance with dental discount plans. Dental discount plans only offer reduced pricing on services for dentists in a specific network.

What Does Dental Insurance Typically Include?

Dental insurance plans can vary widely, so you have to pay attention and make sure your plan has all the basics as well as what’s needed in case of emergency.

With the cost of dental care on the rise, it’s important to know what your insurance will cover and how much you’ll end up paying out-of-pocket.

For the most part, the majority of dental insurance plans cover preventive care like cleanings and X-rays at 100%, but with waiting periods. Coverage for basic services such as fillings, root canals, tooth extractions is also included although it’s limited to a percentage that changes from plan to plan (i.e., 50%). Purchasing coverage which includes major procedures may cost more and limit payments to 50%.

According to recent research  on national spending trends in health care prices over a five-year period from 2011 through 2016*, spending increased by nearly 10%, which is two percentage points higher than growth rates seen during 2010–2016 (+8%). Spending growth has been particularly high among outpatient hospital visits (13%), prescription drugs (~12%)**††, physician office visits (-2%), home healthcare programs (-1%)

How dental insurance plans work

Plans typically cover preventive and basic dental care. Benefits vary by plan.

Preventive dental coverage

Regular checkups and cleanings now may prevent more serious and costly issues later.

Routine dental care

Plans generally cover some or all of the costs for oral exams, cleanings, fillings, and X-rays.

The value of dental insurance

Dental insurance can make dental care more affordable and help you pay less for the services that are needed. Prevention is a major focus of most dental policies, which means routine checkups, cleanings, and exams can be covered at 100%. This helps reduce out-of-pocket costs so your wallet stays in better shape!

Improved overall health: research shows good oral hygiene has been shown to have a positive effect on general health as well as mental wellness. During an exam with your dentist, they may detect signs of 120+ diseases just by examining how healthy or unhealthy our mouth looks!

Dental insurance can help you save money on routine check-ups, cleanings, and procedures while giving your teeth the best chance for a healthy future. They also help cover costs for major services.

Having access to Dentists that are able to spot problems early in preventive visits so that more complex treatments don’t need to be done later down the line is important. Dentistry services such as preventative cleaning or fillings may not seem like they’re important until it’s too late and we find ourselves with an expensive problem! That is why dental coverage will come in handy if something goes wrong – because unexpected oral health issues happen all of the time without warning!

Work with an organization to help you evaluate your oral health needs along with your health insurance needs.

Dental plan categories: High and Low

There are 2 categories of Marketplace dental plans: High and Low.

  • The high coverage level has higher premiums copayments deductibles. So you’ll pay more every month, but less when you use dental services.
  • The low coverage level has lower premiums but higher copayments and deductibles. So you’ll pay less every month, but more when you use dental services.

When you compare dental plans in the Marketplace, you’ll find details about each plan’s costs, copayments, deductibles, preventive care, and services covered.

Adult & child dental insurance in the Healthcare Marketplace

Dental coverage is an essential health benefit for children and young adults. If you purchased an ACA-qualified healthcare plan from the health insurance marketplace, or directly from an insurance company, dental must be available to your child either as part of the plan. It can also be purchased separately.

Adults do not have a right to dental benefits under the law; however, they may purchase it if their provider offers it in conjunction with another service such as medical insurance or hospitalization coverage.

Do Dental Insurance plans have a Network?

Most dentist offices belong to multiple networks or an extensive network. While you are comparing dental insurance services for your family, it is good practice to call your dentist to confirm which dental networks they belong to or if they offer a discount program. You will also want to discuss the type of service they offer, such as preventive services, fluoride treatments, family dental, or pre-existing conditions.

Dental costs vary from dentist to dentist, and from basic procedures to major procedures even cosmetic procedures. Some plans offer better insurance benefits than others. Discuss with your insurance advisor the level of coverage you need to meet your dental and health coverage.

How to purchase dental insurance plans

Dental coverage is available 2 ways.

Health plans that include dental coverage. Dental coverage is included in some Marketplace health plans. You can see which plans include dental coverage when you compare them.

If a health plan includes dental, the premium covers both health and dental coverage.

Separate, stand-alone dental plans. In some cases, separate, stand-alone plans are offered. You can see them when you shop for plans in the Marketplace.

If you choose a separate dental plan, you’ll pay a separate, additional premium.

Our recommendation is to work with the carrier your dentist recommends. Insurance premiums will vary from provider to provider, but by working with a licensed insurance advisor, you’ll be able to determine the level of care you need and help manage your dental care costs.
